What?

A mini road trip around Scotland scouting out wedding venues.

Edinburgh

Caledonian sleeper train

Left London Euston at 10:30 pm and arrived in Edinburgh at 7:30 am.

Breakfast at the Salt Cafe

After arriving early in Edinburgh at 7:30 am, had a warming bowl of porridge topped with rhubarb poached in blood orange and candied walnuts to start the day. Breakfast was so good it was gone before I could take any photos!

Arthur’s seat

Climbed Arthur’s seat to take in the views of Edinburg and Leith – and bumped into Nicola Sturgen on the way up!

Dinner at the Timberyard

Beautiful and atmospheric with really incredible food. Could not recommend this place more highly – it received a Michelin star shortly after we visit! I didn’t take any photos all evening (was having a lovely evening!) so pinched the one below from Timberyard’s website

Pitlochry and the Cairngorms national park

Ben Vrackie

Climbed 2757 feet up Ben Vracki (though started around 400 feet) – 100 meters short of a Munro! Technically a Corbett. Amazing views of Loch a’Choire and the Cairngorm peaks.

Killiecrankie house

A gastronomic overnight experience which perfectly balanced luxury and home from home. The evening started relaxing in the lounge perusing Tom and Matilda’s fantastic cookbook collection, before moving into the dining room to continue the 15-course tasting menu while listening to Paul Simon and David Bowie on vinyl. The evening wrapped up in the bar with a nightcap cocktail and apple toffee sweets, black pudding madeleines and Irn-Bri jellies, before retiring to our sumptuous room with free standing bath, walk in shower and modern four poster bed.

Loch Lomond and the national Trossachs park

Fantastic stay at Monachyle Mhor in the corr cabin, with the most spectacular views and super cosy at night.
