What?

Visiting friends and family back home in County Durham, Newcastle, Tynemouth and Northumberland – quite the tour around the North East!

During our tour of the North East we visited a great quirky pub in South Gosforth, the Brandling Villa. We crossed over the river Tyne to By The River Brew – another great place for food and drinks! We ate at Trakol, one of our favourite restaurants. Thirty minutes on the metro (Newcastle’s version of London’s tube or Manchester’s trams) took us to Tynemouth, a really lovely coastal town. Boasting sandy beaches and rock pools, and cool places to eat and drink, such as the famous Riley’s Fish Shack on the beach. In the morning we enjoyed takeaway breakfast bao buns from Pablo Eggs-Go-Bao on the sea front.

The last leg of our tour was rural Otterburn in Northumberland, where we celebrated the utterly beautiful wedding of our friends.

How?

3 hour LNER train from London Kings Cross to Durham, costing £100 for an open return ticket, and staying with friends and family for 5-nights (train tickets are much cheaper if booked in advance and for specific trains).
