Who?

Just turned 30 year old, living in London.

What and Why?

Whilst I want to really relish living in the capital, urban-living has also spawned a longing for more nature and wilderness. The physical and mental benefits of connecting with nature are well known. At the same time, a lesson well learned from the lockdowns, I found being out and about, and exploring the city also greatly lifted my spirits and boosted my energy levels.

Therefore, this year (covid permitting!), I plan to both explore the city and escape it every month.

More about me, and my manifestos:

  1. I am research scientist by trade, specialising in anti-cancer drug discovery. My work is generally 9-5, so my visits and trips are often weekend outings.
  2. I have always loved UK adventures (even pre-pandemic!) and plan to continue to explore the British Isles and its capital – and by boycotting planes we’re doing our bit for the planet!
  3. As much as I would love to, travelling from London to sunny Scotland or south to the beaches of Cornwall every month is perhaps idealistic! Though the odd trip to the Scotland is inevitable (my favourite holiday spot), most of my outings will be within two hours of London.
  4. Living in London, I no longer own my own set of wheels. For that reason, and being better for the planet, I use public transport the vast majority of the time and will give the details of how to reach each destination.
  5. The general notion is that living in London is expensive, and though I will occasional treat myself, I can’t be blowing the budget every month! I would like to show that enjoying and escaping the city doesn’t have to cost the earth (figuratively and literally), and will be aiming to spend less than £50 when ‘on a budget’.
  6. I like to experiment with portrait, pano and monochrome styles when taking photos. In a world full of overly edited and filtered photos, I don’t like to and rarely apply filters to my own. On the very odd occasion I do, these will only be very basic filters such as warm, and I will fully disclose when such filters have been applied.
  7. I don’t use social media (Instagram or Facebook).
